Report Cards / Weekly Update

Families of Room 31 ~

Just a reminder about a few things ~

1.  REPORT CARDS were sent home today in your child's blue communication folder.  Please keep the paper report card at home, yet send the signed envelope back to school with your child.

2.  Communication folder / homework folder - may assessments (all that you've seen already ) have been sent home in your child's homework folder or communication folder.  Please CLEAN these out.  The communication folder should come back EMPTY and your child's homework folder should be empty except for any current work this week.

3.  HEALTH HOMEWORK - Mrs. LeMay assigned health homework last Friday.  It is due by this current Friday.

4.  READING TAKES YOU PLACES / MATH FACT SHEETS - After the winter vacation, I will be sending home a sheet sharing how many READING TAKE YOU PLACE and MATH FACT PRACTICE SHEETS your child has returned.  In order for your child to receive a GOLD MEDAL a the end of the year, they need to complete 10 reading slips AND 5 math fact practice sheets.  Many children have brought in several reading papers and at least one math.  It would be my hope by now that they would have completed at least THREE READING slips and ONE Math fact sheet.  Please check with your child to see if they have turned these in.  If you child completes one (reading or math) yet, not the other this year, they will receive an alternate medal at the end of the year ceremony.  If they do not complete or participate in either, then they will not receive a medal.    The slips are readily available to your child in class and can be locate on our class blog for you to print out.

5.  A HEART FELT THANK YOU ~  At this time of year, I often take time to reflect on the positive moments in my life and stop and think of the reasons I have to be grateful.  Coming to work each day and working with your children is the BEST medicine / job I could ever wish for.  Wishing all my families happy holidays and a safe, healthy 2017

If you have any questions / concerns, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

READING INCENTIVE PROGRAM

The Reading Incentive Program at Coolidge has begun!

Students have brought home their reading sheets to be turned in when fully completed.  Students in fourth grade are required to read for every 30 minutes.  Once they ahve read a total of 30 minutes, they may mark off the book on the sheet or color the book on hte sheet.  Once the ENTIRE paper is completed, parents are asked to SIGN the sheet.   We would like the students to turn in 10 reading sheets to complete the program for the medal ceremony which is held in June.

MY NIGHTLY ASSIGNED READING does COUNT  TOWARDS THIS PROGRAM !    If students read 20 minutes a night for my homework, 3 night of twenty minute reading will equal 3 books for the Reading Incentive program.

Our classroom will have a  reading recorder who will keep track of the sheets as they are passed in.   I do ask that the sheets are passed in on an individual basis throughout the year, not 10 sheets at the end of the year.

The sheets are readily available in our classroom and / or on this blog!

Here's hoping EVERY student receives a medal in June!

FIRST DAY - August 30, 2016

Families of Room 31!!

What a wonderful first day we all experienced!!!   I was so excited to have my room filled with eager and excited students!

Today we spent some time with Miss Fallis – our music teacher.  We spent some time unpacking and labeling our supplies.   Some supplies  -  the extras we did not ask for, were sent home (or to be kept in their backpacks) as we don’t have room to store them in our small buckets.

Today the children will come home with their planners and homework folders. The homework folder and planner are to travel between home and school on a daily basis.   In their homework folder are three forms that need to be signed and returned tomorrow.

    •  Fair Play Slip
    •  Nature Trail Form
    •  Bullying Pledge

Please review these forms tonight and send them back with your child in the morning.   I also ask that you:

    •  send your child to school each day with a WATERBOTTLE and SNACK.
           Remember to be allergy aware!
    •  sign your child’s planner EVERY NIGHT throughout the school year.

Please clean out the blue communication folder and send it back to school tomorrow!

Tomorrow the students will have ART.   Our PE class will be on Thursday. Just a reminders - Friday is a day off for students as teachers attend a professional development training.

I look forward to a GREAT YEAR!   Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions.

Just a reminder that the Completion Ceremony for our 4th grade class is tomorrow - Monday June 20th at 9:30.  Please make sure your child arrives to school at the usual time as we need to get the entire 4th grade assembled as a group before the ceremony begins.

We ask that your children dress for the occasion.  They children may bring a change of clothes to school to change into after the ceremony.  We have other activities later in the day.  They may feel more comfortable in more comfortable, cool clothing!

I's also like to take the time to thank all of my families for a wonderful year!  I have thoroughly enjoyed working with your children.  Not a day went by that they did not bring a smile to my face.  I am so proud of the growth they have made academically as well as emotionally.  They are most certainly ready for firth grade.  If ever you or your child have a question, please don't ever hesitate to get in touch.

It has been an HONOR and PRIVILEGE to have been your child's teacher!

Well.... just when we thought it was spring, winter pops back to let us know it is still around.

1.  RECESS this week.  Please make sure your child is dressed for the cooler temperatures this week.  Many have been wearing shorts and no coat.  We will be outside and they will need to be dressed for the weather.

2.  SOCIAL STUDIES TEST -  MONDAY April 4th.  They have had close to 10 nights to study so I know they should be prepared!  The study guide covers all that will be on the test.  Reading over the pages of the chapter listed should also help out.  Please make sure your child returns their book

3.  REPORT CARDS - report cards are being sent home in the MONDAY folder.  Please keep the report card but sign the envelope and return it with your child on Tuesday.  If you have any questions, don't hesitate to email me.

4.  FIELD TRIP SLIP - On Monday, a permission slip for our upcoming June field trip is going home.  Please fill it out and return it to school with the money by the date listed.  We will need chaperones for this trip.  If we have too many volunteers, I will place the adult names in a hat to choose.  Those parents attending will need to have an up to date CORI.

SS. TEST / SPRING FLING / TISSUES

It's hard to believe that April is approaching us so quickly.  Below are just a few important pieces of information:

1.  SPRING FLING - Thanks to those 9 families that have sent in either the $5.00 or the SPORTS ITEM in support of our class basket.  The Spring Fling is on the evening of April 8th.  It is a great family night and a wonderful fundraiser for the PTO.  Please do you part and consider supporting sending in your money or item on MONDAY.  WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT!

2.  SOCIAL STUDIES TEST - On Friday, I sent home a study guide and the students' social studies textbook.  They are going to have a test on the MIDWEST on Monday April 4th.  I wanted to give the families at least a week to prepare and the possibility of studying over TWO weekends.  Please review the notes / text with your child.  The test will be similar in format to the previous test on the South.    Please keep your child's textbook at home to review until Monday, April 4th.

3. TISSUES  -  Our classroom is running seriously low on our tissue supply.  The last of the winter colds and the beginning of allergy season is taking its toll on our supply.  Please consider picking up an extra box of tissues when you are shopping and sending it in with your child.  This should help us get through the remainder of the school year.

As always, thanks for your continued support.  If you have any questions / concerns, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

The PTO asks that all items be sent into our classroom by Monday, March 28th, so that they'll have time to assemble the baskets.

JOIN US! Most Likely to Succeed Viewing

MOST LIKELY to SUCCEED

Please consider joining me at the screening of  Most Likely to Succeed on Wednesday, March 16th at 6:30pm in the SHS auditorium where we will view and discuss this compelling film.

Below is a brief synopsis of the film.

The current educational system in the United States was developed a century ago during the rise of the industrial age and was once the envy of the world. However, the world economy has since transformed profoundly, but the US education system has not. Schools are attempting to teach and test skills, when mastered, that still leave graduates woefully unprepared for the 21st Century. After presenting this problem, the documentary focuses on the story of a school in San Diego that is completely rethinking what the experience of going to school looks like. As we follow students, parents and teachers through a truly unorthodox school experience, the audience is forced to consider what sort of educational environment is most likely to succeed in the 21st century?

Feb. 9th Update

SOCIAL STUDIES TEST
I want to again remind everyone that there is a social studies test on the south this THURSDAY.  The students took home their STUDY GUIDE and their SOCIAL STUDIES text book last Wednesday to being studying.  I was surprised to see several of their text books still in their backpacks today.  The cover page of the study guide breaks down what is expected on the test.  It is important that the students are reviewing both their notes and their text book every night.  There is no spelling this week so the students can devote more time to their studying.  Please take the time to review this material with them.  They need to return the text book to school on THURSDAY.

HEALTH HOMEWORK
The students were assigned health homework from Mrs. LeMay last Tuesday.  It was due today.  Only 9 students passed it in.  The students were told last week that this assignment counts as a test grade.  Please make sure they return the assignment COMPLETED tomorrow.

TFK BOOKLETS
We need your help!  Mrs. Clouter already shared but it begs repeating. We are critically behind with our Time for Kids campaign. Please do your part to fill 7 entries in your family’s book so that we can continue to provide this important resource at no cost to our school. Only 8 students from our class have returned their booklets.  If you are not going to fill yours out, please return it to school so it can be filled out by someone else.  TFK is a GREAT NONFICTION resource and it is quite a savings to get this subscription FREE.  Our class this year is benefiting from last years group filling our and returning the booklets!

BLUE COMMUNICATION FOLDERS  / PLANNERS

Just reminder for parents that the blue communications folders go home the first day of every week.  PLEASE look for this in your child's backpack, take out the memo's / corrected work and send it back to school the next day with your child.  Recently , I have had a few students return their folders with ALL their work / memo's in there.    Also, please remember to check your child's planner and sign it every night!

CONFERENCES
I am in the process of setting up / meeting with my students and their families for the next round of conferences.  I choose to do this as a check in point to review strengths and areas of concern / focus with my students and their families.   I have already met with some families but will be reaching out to set these up with my families either before school or after school.  Each conference should last about 1/2 hour.  Be on the lookout for an email in the near future if you have not already received one.  If you have a preferred time (before school or after school), please send me an email so I can assign you a date in the time slot that works for you.

SNOW DAY UPDATE

Looks like Mother Nature and the Punxsutawney Phil are clashing.    I just wanted to remind everyone of a few things:

SOCIAL STUDIES TEST - The students have their study guides and social studies books home with them.  The test on the SOUTH will be this Thursday!  Keep studying!

XTRA MATH - Students are able to access XTRA MATH from home.  This might be a good activity to try while home due to the snow.

CANNED FOOD - The final day for the food drive is this coming Thursday.  Thanks to all of you who have helped with this endeavor.  Our class has met the goal of 100 items and are very close to making our next goal of 150 items!  Thanks for all your support to this worthy cause.

BOOK ORDERS - Book orders are due on Wednesday.  You can send your order in with a check to Scholastic Reading Club or can order online.

VALENTINES
  - We are holding a Valentine's celebration on Friday.  If your child is choosing to participate, they must deliver a Valentine to EVERY student in the class.  (We have 19 students!)  Remember, they may not hand out any Valentines that include candy, yet they are able to bring in an extra snack for themselves if they would like.

Enjoy another day of snow!

FOOD DRIVE

We need your help! The fourth grade STUDENT COUNCIL is now accepting donations of non-perishable food items (cans and boxes - no glass, please!).  Our class is 3/4 of the way to reaching 100 food items!  All donations will support the Worcester County Food Bank.   Help us beat our school goal of 1 TON of food!

MATH NIGHT - Please join us!

Please consider joining us on Tuesday evening - January 26th for math night!
I hope to see you there!
