I know it is Spring. Just wondering when it will begin to feel
like it! Here are a few updates as to
what is happening in the classroom.
SPRING FLING: Thanks to those families whom have already
donated to our annual Spring Fling. We have
quite a collection of games for our INDOOR FUN basket. Also, many families have made $5.00
donations! For those of you who have not
donated, it is not too late. Donations
are accepted until Friday, March 30th. Also, it’s not too late to purchase your
ticket for the event. IT is happening on
Friday April 6th.
HOMEWORK: This week there will be NO formal reading
log. We are encouraging the students to
continue with their nightly reading, just count if on their READING TAKES YOU
PLACES slip. Our homework this week will
consist of a practice MCAS story. All
fourth-grade classes will be completing this.
Please check over the daily instructions and make sure your child
completes ALL parts of the directions each night.
MATH: We are wrapping up our Angles unit. The students will be taking their MATH
ASSESSMENT on Tuesday. Please make sure
they review their study guide Monday night!
Also, as it is the end of the month, we will be having our MATH FACT
ASSESSMENTS. For those that have not mastered
their multiplication or division, please make sure they are reviewing these
facts EVERY NIGHT!
READING: We had recently taken a MOCK ELA MCAS in
school. Students are working to
remediate the multiple-choice portion in small groups with me. We will be
moving to look at exemplars for the written responses. I was SO PROUD of the effort and planning
that the students put forth to complete this.
Students are also focusing on non-fiction articles and looking for the
authors message in the text.
WRITING: As trimester three begins, the focus will be
on turn towards opinion writing. Students
recently looked back on their third-grade writing and noted areas of growth as
a fourth-grade student. We are also
focusing on the importance of word choice and the need to change boring to “beautiful!”
SCIENCE: We are into our third trimester and beginning
to learn about waves – SOUND And LIGHT waves.
Recently, we learned about the difference between longitudinal and
transverse waves. We have many hands on experiments
to tackle!
SOCIAL STUDIES: The students will have an their MIDWEST
assessment on Wednesday April 4th.
Please make sure they are reviewing their study guide and reading their
text book a little each night. Please
have your child return their book on the day of the test.
Please don’t hesitate to
reach out if you have any questions.
