Week of January 22nd

Families of Room 31 ~
Being a die-hard Patriots fan, my heart is still racing from tonight's victory!  OMG!   Another great example of GRIT and PERSEVERANCE!  Let's see how it goes in Minnesota on February 4th!
Just a reminder, the students are suppose to wear their concert attire (black bottom / white top / dark shoes) to school on Monday.  We have a dress rehearsal Monday afternoon for the whole school.  The students will perform for their families Monday night.  They are to arrive at Coolidge at 6:40 PM.  I know the kids are EXCITED!  I'm looking forward to hearing their beautiful voices and seeing everyone Monday evening!
Please remember to send your child to school EVERY TUESDAY with their RECORDER and MEDIA books.
The students took home their social studies notes and text book.  Please review the notes each night.  I did share with the students that if they choose to read their social studies text at night, they can count this for  their reading log reading as long as they have read for 20 minutes!  The test will be January 31st.  They need to return their TEXT BOOK by January 31st.
Mrs. Current, their health teacher, also assigned a test for THIS FRIDAY - January 26th.  Their health folder was sent home with their notes on Friday.  Please make sure they are reviewing their notes and that they return their HEALTH FOLDERS on Friday.
Please let me know if you have any questions / concerns.

Week of January 16th Update

Families in Room 31 ~

Just a few updates for this week.

1.  RECORDERS & MEDIA BOOKS TOMORROW - The students need their RECORDERS and their MEDIA books tomorrow as it is TUESDAY!

2.  SOCIAL STUDIES TEST - January 31st - We will be completing our lessons on the SOUTH REGION this week.  The students will be bringing home a STUDY PACKET and their SOCIAL STUDIES TEXT BOOK on Wednesday.  They will be having a test on the SOUTH REGION - (climate, physical features, natural resources and economy) later this month.   (Tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, January 31st.). This will give them TWO weeks to STUDY at home as we will be reviewing in school during socials studies.  Please make sure the students are reviewing / reading nightly during this time.   Also, please make sure the SOCIAL STUDIES TEXT BOOK, is sent back to school by the day of the test.

3.  SCIENCE - This week (Thursday) we are working to build a chain reaction machine.  You child https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2odi5nszWKc
may come home and ask to bring in some materials to build their machine. (ex... dominoes, hot wheels...).   They are developing their own plan on Tuesday / Wednesday.  Please know that I have given them permission to bring these materials to school on Thursday!  They will bring them home either Thursday or Friday.  Here is a link to a video about a chain reaction machine. (Ours will NOT be this complicated!). Chain Reaction Link:

4.  Just to let you know, I will be at a SCIENCE TRAINING meeting Tuesday morning.  I did tell the students on Friday, but I believe some of them were out at their lockers when this was shared.   Please remind your child about my meeting and also have them discuss with you what the EXPECTED BEHAVIOR would be with a substitute in the class room for the morning.  I will be returning to class around 11:45.    Thanks for your support!

Please feel free to get in touch with any questions / concerns.

Welcome to 2018!

Families of Room 31 ~

I want to wish all of my Coolidge families a very happy 2018!

Just a reminder that we return to school tomorrow – Tuesday, January 2nd.  The students have MEDIA and MUSIC so please remember to return your media books and bring your MUSIC / RECORDER to school as music is at 9:15!   FYI -  your child needs their recorder EVERY TUESDAY!  It is recommended that they keep it in their backpack so they have it when needed.

Also, don’t forget to bring back any signed READING or MATH slips.  Every child needs to have at least FIVE returned slips by late spring.  May students are already on the board and have earned coupons to shop at the school store.   Each returned slip is worth one 25 cent coupon to shop.  I know given my math homework of practicing math facts and reading log homework, the students have had enough nightly homework to count as multiple slips!    Some students just need to remember to return their slips!

Lastly, The students received a form from their music teacher before vacation about their upcoming concert on Monday, January 22nd.  About half of my families have returned it.  It is due by Friday, January 5th.  If you have not sent it back, please do so by the deadline.

Looking forward to seeing all my students tomorrow morning!

Warmly,

Miss Finneran
